I would suspect that having the source code and the ability to
heavily customize the system, result listings, etc. are some
interests. Other advantages to hosting your own indexing include:
* security (i.e. only you have your data)
* speed (since you can index files without hitting the network and
pick the timing and frequency of indexing as you wish)
* site integration (i.e. it can be integrated into your site design)

I would guess that many people find the fuzzy matching and ability to
easily change search weightings useful.
