We have been running 3.1.5 for just about 4 years. I just tried to build the latest 
beta but the Make stage failes with:

I'm using gcc and zlib on a Solaris 7 platform (Sun Ultra-1) - yes I know its old but 
its soon to be replaced.

Have built 3.1.6 instead - no probs.
