Basically, you can index anything with an HTTP URL in the supported
3.1.x code. So if you have some sort of CGI that allows web access to
the database, then chances are pretty good you'll be able to do what
you want.
The 3.2 code introduces the idea of an "external transport"
agent--i.e. a script or program that presents data based on a URL.
You could potentially use this to access the database as you see fit,
though results will still be displayed in a URL basis.
