It sounds like it needs some sort of networking library that configure
didn't pick up. As I'm not familiar with BSDI, you'll probably have to ask
your administrator or someone who knows BSDI a bit. If you have some
source around for some other network program (telnet or finger or
something), take a look for what libraries are added in the final linking
stage.
