I haven't seen that error before, but I would tend to believe it's an
issue between your own compiler in /usr/local and the upgraded glibc
in RH 7.1:

I know for sure that RH 7.0 comes with gcc-2.96 and I would guess
that RH 7.1 sticks with that (though hopefully a better debugged
version), plus it would come in /usr/bin.
I'd either stick with the native compiler (which should work OK), or
recompile gcc-2.95.2 for the new glibc. (See the gcc FAQ if you have
trouble.)
