You can change the template you use for each listing. The relevant settings in
the config file is template_map - it lets you define which files to use as a
template for each result. I think I found that you have to specify long.html
or short.html (found in the share directory) explicitly with this tag or it
will use the built-in defaults. More information on what you can put in the
templates is in the documentation under htsearch. It's very easy to understand.

If the document matches but there are no excerpts to show, you can change what
is displayed instead of the excerpt with no_excerpt_text.

If you want to work with how the excerpt is displayed, you can change what you
would use for the ellipses (end_ellipses and start_ellipse) and how it
highlights the matching words (start_highlight and end_highlight). You can
change the size of the excerpt by playing with excerpt_length, but I don't
think this will change the results unless you re-dig.
