Jeff,

The amount of text displayed can be adjusted using the
"excerpt_length" attribute, which by default is 300 characters.
The "excerpt_show_top" attribute can also be used to always
show the top portion of the document, rather than the text
surrounding a matching word.  This is set to "false" by default.
