Well, both the indexing algorithm and the scoring algorithm were pretty
substantially rewritten in 3.2, to solve some problems and limitations
in 3.1, so it's a bit surprising to hear the results are poorer in 3.2.
It's not a simple matter of flipping a few configuration options to
change this.
It might help if you described in more detail exactly how the results
are of poorer quality. Are you getting less matches than before, are
they being scored such that the top matches are less relevant, or is the
problem something else? If you're getting less matches, you may want
to look into the possibility that htdig is missing some documents that
it was getting before, and try to find out why (use more verbose output,
e.g. -vvv).
