The allow_numbers attribute has been a feature since well before 3.0
(which is as far back as I have documentation and/or a ChangeLog).

On the other hand, you will definitely appreciate upgrading to the most
recent production version (currently 3.1.5). Performance improvements, bug
fixes, features, etc. Most importantly, from the 3.0 series to the 3.1.0
release, several database corruption bugs were fixed.
