The "size = ..." message should appear after each file is parsed. Given that htdig is showing its final statistics, I wouldn't say it's ending abruptly. Rather, it just seems to be rejecting all but 2 of the links in the starting document. You'll need an extra level of verbosity, i.e. -vvv, to find out why.
