Replacing what version? Are you using this in a production environment, 
or are you doing this for test purposes?

Keep in mind that the only version recommended for production servers is 
the recently released 3.1.6.

As it says, there's usually more information in the server error log. 
Saying that it's an internal server error doesn't say much.

This means very little, though I do find it a bit odd that your new CGi 
is about a tenth the size of the new one. Did you compile the previous 
version from source?

Generally, no.  In the 3.2 series, the database format is still somewhat 
in a state of flux as we're trying to keep in sync with versions of the 
mifluz word database library (an offshoot of ht://Dig development) and 
the underlying Berkeley DB package. Often it doesn't require much to 
update, but this is why there are release notes and an upgrade guide to 
the 3.2 betas.

Of course if you're upgrading from 3.1 to 3.2, the databases aren't 
compatible as there's simply more information in the 3.2 databases. 
Again, that's why there are release notes and an upgrade guide.
