With Apache 1.X, I know the answer is "no," since CGI output is sent
directly over the network--PHP doesn't get an opportunity to parse it.

With Apache 2.0, I believe you can do this, though I have not done it
myself. You can, of course, also do the reverse--embed the htsearch CGI
output in a PHP "wrapper."
