It's hard for us to control what the archives say.  Sometimes someone
gives good advice that's applicable to one particular person/situation,
but not necessarily generally applicable to everyone.  Other times,
there are responses that aren't quite accurate.  That's why it's usually
better to check the FAQ first before going to the archives.  In this case,
FAQ 5.4 does suggest that TMPDIR is set inside the rundig script.  There
are also messages in the archives that suggest this, or are quite explicit
about it.  Without a reference to a specific message in the archives, it's
hard to figure out who the last person was and whether the advice given
was appropriate or not.
