Thanks for your answers.
Ive already tried -vvv and the messages where the same in both cases,
failure or success on the indexing process.
I ran rundig using a php script.
I just tried to run rundig from an interface of my provider: I got the
following message:
CPU Time Exceeded, which means the problem is not htdig.
Has anyone a clue how to reduce CPU time?
The only solution for me seems to index the directories one(or more) at a
time, to
run htmerge on each dig and then merge all the databases together.

Hi - You might want to double check your config file, and maybe
check your disk space (wild guess since I think you said things
once worked with less pages). Also try using -vvv as suggested
by someone else. When I tried indexing your site I didn't have
any problems.
htmerge: Total documents: 989
htmerge: Total size of documents (in K): 67403
