Take a look at the db.wordlist file. There should be actual words in 
there. If so, search for one of those. Remember that common words are 
filtered by the "bad_words" list:

Beyond that, if there are actual words in the db.wordlist file, I'd make 
sure that htsearch has permissions to read the databases and descend 
into the directories leading up to the databases.
