According to Craig Palaschak:

Let me guess. Red Hat 7 with htdig-3.2.0-2.011302.i386.rpm, right?
The January 13/02 snapshot of 3.2.0b4 had a bug in the handling of
Basic authorization. I suggest you try the 3.1.6 stable release,
or a more recent snapshot of 3.2.0b4, which you'll have to rebuild
from source. I really need to add this one to the FAQ.

If I'm wrong, please provide details about ht://Dig version, snapshot
date if applicable, where you got it, your OS version, and distribution
version if it's Linux. See http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q1.8 and
http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q5.33
