Are you sure that all these characters need to be escaped with a backslash? I am pretty certain that only the $ and ` characters need this special treatment. I forgot to escape the $ in the example I sent you on Tuesday. The reason for this escaping is that before the contents of local_urls_to is parsed as a string list, looking for substrings or regular expressions, it is first parsed for variable subtitutions and file subtitutions, which gives the special meaning to $ and `. -- Gilles R.
