We've had horrible problems with Acrobat on UNIX after version 3.0 of Acroread. Since xpdf is free software and quite good, this is what we recommend now. http://www.htdig.org/FAQ.html#q4.9 Remember also, that some PDF files may look like text but have been unfortunately generated as graphics. At the moment, I know of no useful OCR solution for these files (but fortunately they're usually quite rare now). As I said, while I haven't tried Acrobat 5.0, as of version 4.0, Adobe removed the features for generating PS file (that could be indexed) from PDF files. So xpdf is not only more reliable, but "open source" free software. I'm pretty sure AIX binaries can be found. http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/ -- -Geoff Hutchison Williams Students Online http://wso.williams.edu/ ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ htdig-general mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, send a message to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> with a subject of unsubscribe FAQ: http://htdig.sourceforge.net/FAQ.html
