Now I had a problem with htsearch, had to rename it htsearch.pl for it to execute. Should I do this with all the executables installed for this process, such as pdftotext? Getting back to the fonts, is it needed to have them installed somehwere?

One file I have not changed is sample-xpdfrc, everything is still commented out. I don't know where the fonts are installed on our RaQ550 server. Is this likely to be the cause of this new error message?

I changed it but still get the same errors. I  commented out lines like <my $WP2HTML =  '  ' ; > because I only want to use the pdf parser and it is my understanding that they are not needed. Am I wrong?

is incorrect,  it should be the full pathname of pdf2html.pl, not the directory name.

You should have lines like

my $WP2HTML = '';

in doc2html.pl.  It looks as though you commented them out.

I am trying to set up an external parser with htdig to index pdf files on our web site. I installed the files as per the xpdf INSTALL file.

For doc2html.pl I only needed pdf search so the only variable is

my $PDF2HTML = '/home/sites/www.volvoclub.org.uk/web/cgi-bin';

The only changes I made to pdf2html.pl were:

my $PDFTOTEXT = "/usr/local/bin/pdftotext";

my $PDFINFO = "/usr/local/bin/pdfinfo";

In htdig.conf I put:

external_parsers: application/pdf->text/html /home/sites/www.volvoclub.org.uk/web/cgi-bin/htdig/pdf/doc2html.pl

 Ran rundig, but got the following output:
