[htdig] does htdig have to use http protocol to build its database

The documentation says htdig uses the http protocol to build its database. I would like to avoid using the http protocol, so that the results of my web analysis is not skewed by a bunch of http requests every night at 4am. Is it possible to run htdig in another manner?   Michael Martinez CSREES/ISTM/USDA
