The problem is not that the config file isn't found, but that
now both config files are read:

Here are the access times before running a search:

% ls -lut /etc/htdig*
-rw-r--r-- 1 web web 8632 Jan 23 15:30 /etc/htdig.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 web web 8656 Jan 23 15:29 /etc/htdig-newweb.conf

and after:

% ls -lut /etc/htdig*
-rw-r--r-- 1 web web 8632 Jan 23 15:36 /etc/htdig.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 web web 8656 Jan 23 15:36 /etc/htdig-newweb.conf
For whatever it is worth, I don't see this behavior with either 3.1.6 or the 3.2b4 snapshot I have installed. Are you by any chance using the 'include' attribute to pull one configuration file into the other? Also, are you sure that you don't still have an old input element for the default 'config' attribute floating around in the search form?
