The situation:

htdig is running on a Solaris 2.7 machine. The same machine is used to
host our webserver. The name of the webserver is DNS alias for the
original machine name. DocumentRoot of the webserver is a directory in our
AFS. Because several virtual host are hosted by this webserver, there are
no entrys in the local hosts file.
We're still using htdig-3.1.5 because we want to upgrade during the
migration to newer and faster systems, which is on our schedule during the
next months. Then we will also seperate robot and webserver.

The problem:

One of our fileserver crashed which resulted in AFS problems. We also had
a network shutdown during maintenance which caused also AFS timeouts.
Therefor the webserver was unable to answer his requests. I find 'no
server running' messages in the htdig log. After the webserver recovers
his AFS connection, htdig still gives the 'no server running' message
although requests are answered by the webserver. Other servers on other
machines are still searched. I have to abort and restart the robot to
solve the problem.

I think htdig should be able to reconnect to the server. Is this behavior
known? Is it fixed in htdig-3.1.6? I know how to work around this problem
when we migrate to the new machines, but ...

Thanks in advance

Berthold Cogel
