You are absolutely correct - it is a problem with the way M'Soft exports to
html. I was able to get round the problem by shuffling the settings in
PowerPoint, but the final output still has that unmistakably M'Soft look
about it.

For the interest of any other folk who might read this, two alternative
export utilities were brought to my attention:

 The Office Accessibility Wizard created by the University of Illinois
at http://cita.rehab.uiuc.edu/software/office/
It produces almost 'accessible' html directly from PowerPoint.


and 'OpenOffice' as a third wild card. Apparently capable of a clean export.
