What does the error message say? What version are you using? Have you
tried passing -v or -vv to rundig so that you can see what it is doing?
If that doesn't provide enough information, you can add more v's to get
more verbose output.

Chances are that either htdig didn't find anything interesting to index
or that your databases were somehow corrupted. Running with -v(s) should
tell you whether anything is being indexed. Deleting your databases and
trying to recreate them should address the potential corruption issue.

I don't have any idea what meta tags you are referring to. For typical
html pages, meta tags are not required in order for pages to be indexed.
As for testing basic indexing functionality, 1 page should work as well
as 200, assuming that you correctly point htdig to that page and have
things configured such that the page is successfully indexed.
