David, I had a quick look at this, and can see two issues right away. 1. Your stylesheet is not linked correctly - you need to use /main_stylesheet.css, or else move the file into the cgi-bin directory. 2. Your EXCERPT: is enclosed in <tt> tags. My browser is defaulting to a mono-spaced font for this, (and I believe most other browsers will as well). If you set a specific definition for this in your stylesheet it may help, or you may be able to change the structure so that this tag is not used.
If you have any further problems you would be best advised to try one of the CSS groups, since this is not a problem with ht://dig, although obviously you will need to know your way around if you are going to change the template.
