Hey there Steve,

When you do install Commerce Pro (slightly branded version of osCommerce),
the copyright notices are still in place - which is what the osCommerce
group request/require.

As to giving "props" to the group in a more public way, I can't help you
with an explanation - that's our marketing departments' decision.
