What exactly are you trying to do with htmerge? That program has been relegated to the role of a utility for physically merging two separate databases (the -m functionality) in the 3.2 branch. It is no longer used as part of the normal index creation process; instead the new htpurge program should be run after htdig. Take a look at the rundig script for an example of typical default usage of the various programs in 3.2.


If you are calling htmerge with options that don't include -m, the expected behavior is that it will just silently run to completion and exit. Some sort of warning message would probably have been a better
idea since this issue has now come up a few times.
