I'm still trying to persuade htdig to do what I want it to, but I'm having problems with the merge process. I'm using the -a option for two separate digs, each followed by a merge, so that I end up with two sets of databases:

The third stage is to merge the ext...databases into the db...databases. The fourth stage is to take them live, ie rename db.*.work -> db.whatever
Stage three is giving me the message: 'Cannot open db.wordlist' (with the correct path), which is not surprising as that file does not exist.
Am I doing this in the wrong order or is it more likely to be a configuration problem? This is a new installation, so I have never actually proved that it is capable of merging two databases.
The order sounds correct. What does your htmerge command look like?
Are you manually renaming the files with Db. and Ext. or do you actually have the alternate names defined in your config file? If the former, you might want to take a look at the database name attributes (i.e. word_list, word_db, doc_db, doc_list).
