If you don't need htnotify (it is not necessary for building an index), the easiest fix is to just comment it out in the rundig script.
I think it is something to do with htnotify, as if I try to run that I get "Aborted" message.
What platform are you running on? There is a known bug in htnotify that crashes the program on certain platforms (Solaris 8 and OS X at the least). There is a patch at ftp://ftp.ccsf.org/htdig-patches/3.1.6/htnotifyNull.0. If you need htnotify and don't want to patch, setting the htnotify_prefix_file and htnotify_suffix_file attributes to point at real files also fixes the problem.
