Greetings -

I recently updated my server from RH 7.3 -> RHEL 3 WS. This involves a significant upgarde to gcc as well, and a host of other things (not surprisingly).

Working from the tarball, I got htDIG 3.1.6 built OK, and it seems to run fine with one MAJOR exception. If I run rundig as a cront, or using at, then rundig chugs along, and then right as its finishing up, it causes my whole system to completely freeze up. Basically, it starts generat db.wordlist.new, and then right at the end, crashes and burns. I have no idea why its doing this.

Whats VERY strange is that if I run it as a shell script (e.g. sh /usr/local/htdig/bin/rundig &), it doesn't cause this problem.

I only discovered this by accident - I noticed my server was completely locking up every Sunday night - turns out I'd put rundig as a cron to run every Sunday night, and, my system would completely freeze up - forcing a hard restart Monday AM. Yeah, I suppose I could run it as a cron job as a shell process, but I'd rather know whats going on, since this didn't happen at all under RH 7.xx.

Any ideas?

Thanks
