Locate the following line in your rundig file (located in the htdig/bin directory)

$BINDIR/htdig -i $opts $stats $alt

Modify it as follows:

$BINDIR/htdig -i -u username:password $opts $stats $alt

replace username with a valid one and password with a valid one. Don't use dollar signs in the password, it will screw up htdig. If you wish to use a separate config file, do the following:

$BINDIR/htdig -i -c /htdig/conf/htdig2.conf -u username:password $opts $stats $alt

This will allow you to dig a password protected sight with the parameters assigned by a second configuration file called htdig2.conf.

This should get the job done for you. the -u option will work on both the protected and unprotected site since the unprotected won't be asking for a password.

Use it Well,
