They're not in use right now because they still have some big bugs.
We're in the process of debugging them, though more help would be
nice--it seems to be some sort of weird C++ inheritance problem. Beyond
that, we probably need to check to see if we're doing lingering closes
correctly with the persistent HTTP/1.1 connections.

I would also check to see if it's the "network connection" that's slower
in 3.2 or the indexing itself. As it stands, the networking code isn't
changed from 3.1.2.
