Investigating the problem related to dependencies handling, I
come to the conclusion that either you have gcc or you don't have dependencies.
*sigh*. There is a hidden option to automake --generate-deps that is
supposed to cope with this and together with --include-deps should do
the trick. But, as far as I understand, this is not integerated. Yet.
       Unless someone wants to contribute to automake, the solution for
developpers who do not have gcc is to

            cvs checkout
            automake --foreign --include-deps # disable dependencies generation
            ./configure

       I'll send a mail to the automake author, it may help.
