Nah, I'd just iterate over a list and stop as soon as I find a matching
regex. Maybe it's tricky to keep the list in the same order as in
the configuration, but I don't recall it being so.

Oh, I didn't even *think* of suggesting it for 3.2.0*! ;-)
Definitely a -1 here too; IMHO too many useful features added there
already for that release.
And I will definitely not check it into 3-1-x until asked; just provide
patches. But I believe Gilles likes to back-port (when possible) new
features into the old release-line, and I write this for 3-1-x anyway, so
I thought I should save him some work, for a change.
