Well the databases aren't compatible, that's correct. There are many 
new classes, but the resulting shuffle has made it a bit easier 
(IMHO) to find the code you want.

I will take a breather from coding and write up an architecture 
overview. But I'm also wearing too many hats right now, so this won't 
happen until we can get 3.2.0b1 out the door.

Um yes, but many of the details have changed. For example, it puts 
*all* the words into the word database. It *doesn't* store a fixed 
score for a word, instead it calculates that on-the-fly in htsearch.

I understand the frustration--I haven't had a whole lot of time to 
pour through some of the new code myself. (Without a good testing 
framework, I really don't see this as a good thing though.) That's 
why I want to get to writing...

(Plus I write text faster than I can write code. ;-)
