You can dramatically improve indexing speed by setting the following
two parameters :
wordlist_compress: true
wordlist_cache_size: <the highest value you can afford on your machine>
For more information on these attributes see the documentation.
Are you indexing from a server on your intranet or from the internet ?
Are you 100% sure the crawl/indexing time only depends on htdig ?
