The reason why I chose not to report the changes on htdig immediately
is that these are huge modifications. Besides I'm currently trying to
solve the still active core dump/shared library problem on Solaris
(got a solaris 2.5.1 machine for myself yesterday, installed
everything including purify, ran regression tests and about to run
benches during a few days). In short I'm trying hard to adress all the
really hard problems once for all.
Also I want to clearly establish rules for performance tuning (I
worked on benchmarks and graphing them with rrdtool three weeks
ago). We are not yet clearly sure why htdig-3.2 slower than htdig-3.1
and this is a big concern. The monitoring class (WordMonitor) and
rrdtool reports will help finding out (working directly at the Berkeley DB
level, allowing to monitor all Berkeley DB activity, not just the word
database).
I think I did a mistake by loosing sync with htdig and that I'll pay that
when I will re-synchronize (as of now I think it will take 3 or 4 weeks
because there are a lot of issues to be discussed on the list before
doing it). I thought the Berkeley DB upgrade to 3.0.55 with
benchmarks would take me a week and it took me a month. I'm out of sync
since about 5 weeks.
Cheers,
P.S. Note that it's now April 2 in France :-)
