At the moment, there's no way to get htsearch to run as a daemon.

You don't have to have the output be HTML. Simply edit the templates 
as you see fit. This is used, for example, for sending results to a 
PHP or Perl wrapper.

Yes, there's been discussion along these lines recently.

If you're interested in helping out as we move the parsing and result 
output results around that would be greatly appreciated. There will 
probably be considerable discussion along these lines over the next 
few days/weeks.
