Hmm.  I just thought of a slight problem with this naming scheme.
Given our almost weekly outages of the htdig.org domain name, I think
that putting all mirror site names under the same domain would mean
they'd all go down together, at least as far as DNS lookups are concerned.
How feasible would it be to get a more reliable primary domain name server
for htdig.org, and/or get another DNS server set up as a secondary for
the domain, preferably in another location?  At this point, I'd think that
would be a more urgent need than adding more mirror sites.
