[htdig] or searches

I'm trying to run large sets of batch queries,  each query have
some common and uncommon words.  If I try to 'or' them together,
queries takes forever with my 500/700 MB doc/word databases,  
and I'd presume the reason is lots of documents contain the common
words.  Is there anyway to speed this up?
