This would indicate that the htfuzzy synonym database is corrupted
and that you have not run htfuzzy endings.
To fix the first, I simply recommend running 'htfuzzy synonyms' again.

The *search* is slow? That's very unusual. The endings algorithm is
very fast--it only needs to make a few database lookups. But you can
turn it off by changing the search_algorithm attribute in your
htdig.conf file: <http://www.htdig.org/attrs.html#search_algorithm>
