I've compiled htdig and I've noticed that htdig try to use Acrobat, I think
to indicize PDF.
Is the use of Acrobato to convert PDF into text?
Why does htdig use an external tool?
Probably it's better to use xpdf (or part of this tool e.g. pdf2text)

It's free and probably it's possible to use the code, the tools that don't
require X libraries can work on many platform.
