you certainly do, otherwise ht://dig won't know that anything has changed ;)

I run it every four hours:
# run the rundig script every few hours to update the indices
10 8,12,16,20,0 * * * root /usr/local/httpd/htdig/bin/rundig 
0 0 * * * root rm -f /usr/local/httpd/htdig/db/*

and delete the index at midnight to make sure that the index is really
up to date.
