I've not tried this but I think you have to invert it.
The defaults are :.-_/!#$%^&*'
So if you want to be able to get hypenated strings maybe you have to
set this variable to : ._/!#$%^&*'
Note that there is no "-" character above.
Can you someone tell us if I am right or wrong?
