[quite new to htdig, these remarks may be irrelevant]
i saw on archives this is a recurrent question, but i found no answer.
How to use external_parsers ?
In fact i do not understand why this seems to be so complicated.
Htdig will be more customizable if it parses text files only, all other
files being handled via external parsers. With something like that in
htdig.conf:
external_parsers: application/postscript ps2ascii \
application/x-dvi "dvips -f | ps2ascii" \
application/postscript-gzipped "gunzip -dc | ps2ascii" \
...
