I agree with Tom and Gordon that we should have a parameter which in default is STRICT_MODE (strictly follows standards as per RFC-2396) but we should be able to pass it so it is able to handle any kind of bogus url the way we have different CookiePolicy as mentioned by Gordon. Or if we cant have such thing soon in httpclient then we can simply catch that exception and switch to java based http-protocol or Sun's UrlConnection as mentioned by Tom.
