I am using the patch with multiple connections.  I am not experiencing a total
mess.  Perhaps you do not understand how the mechanism operates.  I'll attach
some sample code that may help you better see how it works.

I can only access the request input/output streams after calling the execute
method.  At this point the request/response headers are already consumed. 
Moreover if there are redirects then there may have been several different
connections.  The 'wire info' seems to be some kind of debug logging.  I'm not
intersted in that.  Just the bytes sent and received as part of the http
transaction.
