This seems to be very interesting advantage of HTTPClient.Any reference
how this can be achieved in HTTP Client?

But equally, the connection can be closed if required (as I understand
it).

The Sun implementation gives absolutely no control over connection
re-use. If you want to restrict a particular connection to be used only
by a single thread - tough.

HttpClient gives you all the control you need.
