What is the reason for retaining the 1.3 compatibility ? I think that those who are using 1.3 JRE will be using HttpClient 3... New major versions of frameworks in general would have to use all possible features of the platform and language to make them more robust, slim (Generics, additional Collections, Enums, java.util.concurrent, javax.net.ssl, java.util.regex)...
