Hi all,
it seems we've overcome [1] and are now proceeding to [2].
Aye.
I don't think we need to establish new formal bylaws on
the spot, we've been operating with the Jakarta bylaws
for quite some time.
Yep, though then we can also simply copy and adjust it; will put that
on my list to do as soon as the resources are up.
So, the next decision seems to be on the domain name.
The Web Services project has domain "ws.apache.org".
Should we ask for hc.apache.org to keep our URLs short?
If not, it should be httpcomponents.apache.org.
I'd suggest something short like 'hc' or even 'httpc' (though that's
probably a bit too close to httpd? <grin/>) and then an alias of the
full name 'httpcomponents'; two other projects are doing the same:
quetz & quetzalcoatl (redirects to quetz)
ws & webservices (redirects to ws)
Then, the mailing lists. I suggest the following, most
of which are obvious:
private@ - new
dev@ - from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
commits@ - from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Ok.
http-user@ - from [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-users or -user? The former seems to be more common. Or client-
users@, to have room for a later [EMAIL PROTECTED] *Shrug* - I'll leave
that to you :-)
Keeping "http" in the user list name makes the new name
easily recognizable by those used to "httpclient-user",
even if we should have a short domain name. It also
makes things easier if we adopt new subprojects with
separate user lists in the future.
Agreed, makes sense.
I don't see a need for an announcement list.
Ok, what about [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Can Wikis be renamed or should we create a new one and
copy over the stuff that is still relevant?
I'm not sure; will try to find out.
We're talking about http://wiki.apache.org/jakarta-httpclient -
right? Or is there another one?
For JIRA, we'll keep our current projects. I don't know
whether some access lists have to be modified because
we're leaving Jakarta.
Will have a look too; I've got full admin rights and enough
experience there.
I'll take care of Gump when we're moving the code to the
new subversion location. I was planning to work on that
after christmas (Gregorian).
Ok.
I was a bit bound the last couple of days but I'm planning to work on
all of that this weekend and the coming week, as time permits. I'll
send out various mails asking for confirmation / confirming each of
the separate steps involved.
The first things we should decide on: domain name (plus accompanying
unix group name), name of new svn repo location, members of unix
group and svn karma group - that's the basics.
After that is done we can move the repo and the site (incl. new /
dist/ area & archive), then take care of the new mailing lists, move/
recreate the wiki and the Jira area(s) etc.
I hope to get a rough overview / schedule up on the wiki tonight -
suggestions, ideas, missing points very welcome :-)
Cheers,
Erik
